Gemuk is a story about a girl named Hayati, who is overweight. Plagued by the ridicule she faces from her classmates and people around her because of her size, she grows up to see the world through a tainted lense. This story captures the conflicts of a girl, as she comes to terms with a society filled with superficial standards that lack compassion. Hayati explains the truth behind the struggle to accept her own body. One day in her journey she finds a story about a thousand cranes. She holds onto that story in hopes her wish will come true. But little does she know the story of the cranes would end differently.
